Urgent Shelter Needs Identified in Deynile District, Banadir Region
Wadani Relief Organization (WARO) recently conducted a comprehensive shelter needs assessment in Deynile District to better understand the living conditions of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and vulnerable households affected by displacement, poverty, and recurring humanitarian crises.
The assessment revealed that thousands of families continue to live in overcrowded and unsafe makeshift shelters constructed from plastic sheets, scrap metal, and worn-out materials. These shelters provide little protection against heavy rains, extreme heat, strong winds, and other environmental hazards, placing families at increased risk.
Our assessment identified critical humanitarian concerns, including:
- 🏠 Severe shortages of emergency shelter materials.
- 🌧️ High exposure to rain, flooding, and harsh weather conditions.
- 👩👧 Women, children, older persons, and persons with disabilities facing heightened protection risks.
- 📈 Continued displacement and increasing humanitarian needs across the district.
- 🤝 An urgent need for coordinated support from humanitarian partners and donors.
WARO remains committed to working alongside affected communities, local authorities, and humanitarian partners to advocate for safe, dignified, and durable shelter solutions for vulnerable families.
We call upon donors, UN agencies, NGOs, and humanitarian stakeholders to support emergency shelter interventions and help restore safety and dignity for displaced households in Deynile District.
