Strengthening Maternal and Newborn Health Through Community Engagement
As part of its commitment to improving maternal and child health, Wadani Relief Organization (WARO Somalia) recently conducted a field visit to Baardheere District, Gedo Region, where our team met with pregnant and lactating mothers to better understand their health needs, challenges, and priorities.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding are critical stages that require continuous access to quality healthcare services, proper nutrition, clean and safe water, essential maternal care, and psychosocial support. Ensuring these services are available helps protect the health of mothers while giving newborns the strongest possible start in life.
During the visit, the WARO team engaged directly with women and community members, promoting awareness of safe pregnancy, antenatal and postnatal care, exclusive breastfeeding, nutrition, and the importance of timely access to skilled health services.
WARO Somalia remains dedicated to working with local communities, government authorities, humanitarian partners, and health stakeholders to strengthen maternal and newborn health services across Somalia. Through community outreach, awareness campaigns, and integrated health interventions, we strive to ensure that every mother receives the care she deserves and every child has the opportunity to thrive.
