WARO Somalia Participates in Global Discussion on Locally Led Climate Action and Climate Risk

Wadani Relief Organization (WARO) Somalia is pleased to announce the participation of our colleague, Zakariya Adan, in the international discussion titled “From Forecasts to Frontlines: Locally Led Action on Climate Risk,” held as part of the global dialogue on climate resilience, anticipatory action, and community-led adaptation.

The event brought together humanitarian practitioners, climate experts, development partners, researchers, and local actors from different regions of the world to discuss practical approaches for translating climate forecasts into effective actions that protect vulnerable communities from climate-related risks.

The discussion highlighted the growing importance of locally led climate action, emphasizing that communities on the frontlines of climate change are best positioned to identify risks, prioritize needs, and implement sustainable solutions. Participants explored how early warning systems, climate information services, and anticipatory action mechanisms can be strengthened through meaningful engagement with local organizations and community leaders.

A key message from the event was that climate resilience efforts are most effective when local actors are empowered with adequate resources, decision-making authority, and direct access to funding. Participants called for stronger partnerships between international organizations, governments, and community-based organizations to ensure that climate action is inclusive, sustainable, and responsive to local priorities.

For Somalia, where climate shocks continue to affect millions of people, locally led adaptation remains essential for strengthening community resilience, protecting livelihoods, and reducing humanitarian needs. WARO Somalia remains committed to advancing community-driven solutions that support vulnerable populations through di saster risk reduction, climate adaptation, environmental protection, and sustainable development initiatives.

WARO extends its appreciation to the organizers and participants for facilitating this important dialogue and looks forward to applying the lessons learned to strengthen climate resilience efforts across Somalia.

Key Recommendation

Increase direct funding and decision-making power for local organizations and communities to lead climate adaptation and resilience initiatives, ensuring that climate action is inclusive, sustainable, and responsive to local needs.
